Baby Dental, How safe is it to have Dental work during early pregnancy?

Wednesday, Jan. 11th 2017 7:55 AM

Question: Pregnant can I have dental work? My husband and I have been trying to have a child. We are not sure if I am pregnant yet because it is too early to test.

However, I also have a wisdom tooth that needs to be removed  since I had an infection and although the infection cleared my tooth still hurts.  My question is it safe to have the tooth extracted  during the early stage of pregnancy.

I know right now I am not 100% sure if I am pregnant yet and I may be jumping the gun so to say, but I would like to know in case I am pregnant what I can or can not do.  I am not sure if I can go eight months or so with this tooth.  Any advise would help.

Answer: I would suggest that you wait until you can confirm your pregnancy with your OBGYN. If you are pregnant you will then be able to talk about your choices.

You maybe be able to have your dentist and your OBGYN talk about how they can go about taking care of your wisdom tooth issue. Having an infection during pregnancy and being in pain is not be good for you or your baby.
