How often should children teeth be X-rayed?

Sunday, May. 29th 2011 7:20 AM

Generally speaking a child needs to have more X-rays taken then an adult would.   A child mouth grows and changes rapidly.  A child is normally more susceptible then an adult to tooth decay.

For children with a high risk of tooth decay, the  AAPD  (American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry) recommends X-ray examinations every six months to detect cavities developing between the teeth. Children with a low risk of tooth decay require X-rays less frequently.

If you have question about your child and X-rays taken at a dental office talk to  their pediatric dentist to find out what is best for your child.
