Health care advocates cheering over the new tobacco policy for 2012 baseball season.
The new policy will limit the use of tobacco by the players. The coalition was initiated by the ADA and nine major health organizations and including more than 200 national, state and local partners and supporters.
After the 2011 baseball season, big-league players, managers and their coaches may no longer carry tobacco tins or packages in their uniforms at games or any time fans are in the ballpark. They will also be prohibited from using smokeless tobacco during televised interviews, at autograph signings and other events where they meet fans, or at team-sponsored appearances. The restrictions take effect in 2012.
