State Dental Program Provided over $1 Million in Free Care to Children.
In Kentucky, about 35 percent of third-graders have untreated tooth decay. This ranking is worse than all but five other states that where listed in a state oral health profile published in 2009 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
To help combat the problem, Smile Kentucky! has provided $1 million in free dental treatment to more than 3,000 third through sixth graders that are without dental insurance or government medical assistance.
