Buying Dental Insurance, Do I Need to Buy a Family Dental Plan.

Single dad of a ten year old son.   Due to a recent job change I no longer receive dental benefits.   So as a single dad I am not sure when buying a dental plan if I have to get a family dental plan or if I can buy a couple dental plan since it is just the two of us.   I am not understanding if couple  means husband and wife.
