Pregnancy and Having Dental X-Rays.

I am eight weeks pregnant and was supposed to go to my dentist for my dental check up and cleaning this month.  It has been over a year since my last dental visit so will the dentist still need to do the X-rays or can they skip that step and just do my dental cleaning.
