Baby Dental, Not Stopping the Thumb/Pacifier Habit Soon Enough.

Monday, Sep. 23rd 2013 12:00 PM

Although as stated in a prior post pacifier and thumb sucking is normal in an infant and young child, this habit should be stop by the age of three. Sucking on thumbs fingers or pacifier for too long can have essentially the same affect on teeth.  If a child repeatedly sucks on their thumbs, fingers pacifiers over long periods of time, the upper front teeth may start to tip outward or not come in correctly.  Other changes in the tooth position and jaw alignment may also occur.  In addition prolonged sucking can create crooked teeth or bit problems.
