Baby Dental, Stopping your baby from thumb sucking.

Monday, Jan. 13th 2014 10:44 AM

My son is a little over two now and I am worried that his thumb sucking may start to cause him dental issues. I have been trying to get him to stop the thumb sucking but it make him upset when I do.  How long should I let this continue?

Answer: It is perfectly normal for infants to suck on their fingers and thumbs. Most baby will stop by age of two. If your child does not, try to discourage finger and thumb sucking after age four. Prolonged thumb sucking can create crowded, crooked teeth, or bite problems. As your pediatric dentist for ways to address a prolonged thumb sucking issue.
