Dental Insurance For My Baby

Tuesday, Aug. 25th 2015 6:02 AM

Question: My daughter is going on a year old, although I do receive dental benefits from my employer, I did not add her to the plan.  Now open enrollment to add her is still about another six months away.  I can swing paying for a check up out of pocket and it would be much cheaper then adding her to my dental plan in six months. My question is are there any big baby dental care procedures that may be too costly for me without insurance?

Answer: Just like adults babies can have larger dental needs then just twice a year check ups and cleaning’s.  They can also get tooth decay (cavities) that need to be filled and if decay goes untreated just like an adult dental damage will get worse over time and they may need crowns/root canals. So although you may be able to afford check ups, insurance will help you control your cost for larger dental needs as well and making preventive care free to little cost depending on your plan.
