Baby Dental – Sliver Crown on a Baby Tooth
Question: When I took my son in for his dental appointment they found a cavity on one of his back molars. The dentist said it was a large cavity. He is advising that he fixes the cavity and then put a silver crown on it, as my son is only seven and it a baby tooth.
I do not have a problem with getting the crown but in getting a silver one. What if he never gets the adult tooth and then has to live with a silver crown the rest of his life.
I asked the dentist about the adult tooth and he was just saying it is not showing up on the X-rays yet. I would love to hear some advise on this.
Reply: If latter on in life your son does not get an adult tooth they can replace the silver crown for a tooth colored crown. So I would not let issue of a silver crown get you down. If you really want then just get a tooth color crown now. They cost more and is probably why your dentist is doing a silver crown. After all unless you know he is not going to get his adult tooth there is no reason to get a more expensive crown.
