Baby Dental – Flossing
My daughter has already had two cavities.
My daughter already has two cavities. I am trying to understand why. I have her brush her teeth after breakfast and dinner. Although they are her baby teeth, I do not want her to continue to get cavities. What should I do about this? The dentist says to get her to floss more. The truth is, right now, she does not floss. Getting her to brush is hard enough. I need advice on how to get her to floss.
Reply: If it is a struggle to get your child to floss, try to make it fun so she wants to floss her teeth. Here are a few tips that may help.
- Try flossing your teeth together. Children are more willing to do things if you’re doing them with them.
- Using a reward system may also work well. Each time your child flosses without a fuss, offer a reward. It does not have to be anything significant.
- Maybe have her dentist go over the importance of flossing
- Give praise when she does floss. Let her know how happy you are that she flossed and that doing so will keep her teeth healthy
